We are a grassroots community group of approximately a dozen members. The mission of the Shaler Pedestrian and Bike Committee is to improve pedestrian and cyclist conditions for the benefit of Shaler residents. Goals include increasing signage for cycling awareness, upgrading crosswalks to the “continental” bar-type, monitoring board of commissioners meetings for opportunities to improve infrastructure, and ensure new infrastructure development includes provisions for sidewalks. An emphasis is to develop a safe corridor along Mount Royal by encouraging the addition of sidewalks in strategic places that connect to culturally important community resources such as libraries, schools, shopping districts, and others.
