Phipps Conservatory
In addition to showcasing nature’s most beautiful botanical specimens in its Conservatory and gardens, Phipps — together with Let’s Move Pittsburgh, its organizational collaborative for children’s health — manages a variety of initiatives to support health and wellness while illustrating the important connections between people, plants, health, beauty and the planet.
These efforts include the following:
– Green Light Foods, a mobile app to help grocery shoppers find healthier options;
– Homegrown, a program to install raised-bed vegetable gardens in under-served communities;
– 10,000 Tables, a movement encouraging families to eat more homemade meals together;
– The Champion Schools Awards, a grant program to fund health programs in area schools;
– Cafe Phipps, at which soda and junk food have been eliminated in favor of a healthy, environmentally responsible menu for Phipps visitors;
– Farmers at Phipps, a market with organic and Certified Naturally Grown local produce; and
– Family Yoga, a series of free, all-ages yoga sessions held on Phipps’ historic front lawn.
