Meatless Monday Pittsburgh is working to promote the national Meatless Monday campaign in Pittsburgh. We’re spreading awareness about the benefits of reducing meat consumption, making sure everyone knows the impact they can make to their health, the environment, and to the animals simply by cutting out meat once a week. Our goal is to get more people moving toward a plant based diet. We’re working first with universities, schools, workplaces, local governments, and restaurants to make veg options more available and more visible.

We have had a wide array of activities so far, meeting with student groups to gain support for bringing Meatless Monday to their college campus. We received a proclamation from the Mayor’s office recognizing the benefits of Meatless Monday. One of our founding members was responsible for the Pittsburgh VegFest that was held this past August. We are working with public school districts to move toward healthier options. We are asking restaurants to offer specials on veg options on Mondays and to have more fresh plant based options available every day. We are just starting to plan a healthy cooking demonstration event for the summer.

We have also received requests from employees from local workplaces and we’re helping them introduce Meatless Monday in the cafeterias. Our next goal is to get the hospitals to come on board with healthier veg options as well!
