The Carnegie of Homestead was founded as the Carnegie Library of Homestead in 1898 as one of three funded by Andrew Carnegie in the Mon Valley that includes a library, music hall and health club facilities, and is the only one remaining in continuous operation with all three components.

Our modern mission is to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning,
wellness and quality of life in the Steel Valley. Our vision is to be an indispensable asset contributing to a strong, vibrant region by fostering self-enrichment and boosting community development.

We were featured by CNN during National Library Week in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world and an example of how public libraries remain staple community institutions. We are a vital resource to a region that has been economically-disadvantaged since the collapse of the steel industry.

The following programs, services and facilities are offered annually.
Library – 6,645 cardholders, collection of 65,015 resources, 23,400 reference questions. A total of 721 library programs were provided for 12,652 participants of all ages.
Athletic Club – 900 Members enjoy using our fitness studio and strength-training, track, basketball court, heated swimming pool, and batting cages. Activities: Silver Sneakers, fitness classes, personal training, swimming lessons, open swim, and local recreational sports team practice.

Music Hall – 30-50 Cultural events each year, drawing fans from all over the US to enjoy a show while supporting the economic vitality of retail establishments and restaurants in the Mon Valley.
